new stories to tell
hey, i'm em :)
I am excited to create this blog as my journal and my way to share the incredible experiences that i'm having in this crazy life of mine. I was blessed to serve as a full-time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Indianapolis, Indiana. It was one of the most amazing things I could have done. It impacted the course of my entire life and brought me greater joy than I will ever really be able to express in words. One thing that really changed me was hearing the stories of others around me, and seeing on the outside how Heavenly Father works with each of His children specifically and personally. I learned that each and every single person in this world has a profound and important story...no matter who you are and how insignificant you feel. I was also having similar experiences with my sweet Father in Heaven and Savior, Jesus Christ, that helped reaffirm in my heart and mind that they are there and they care, 100%, no question, no doubt. These stories impacted me so deeply that I decided I would live my life in a similar way forever, striving to help others, getting to know their stories, and progressing myself by continually having these moving experiences with God.
I was preparing to leave my mission, and it was quite an emotional experience. So much determination to stay strong, keep up good habits, and create change in the world. Sadness to leave also came; there's not really anything like the relationships and the love I was blessed to develop for those people and that beautiful place that I called home for 18 months. I heard a story that changed my whole perspective of coming home. A mission president was meeting with an elder who was also leaving his mission after 2 years of service. He said to the elder, "Elder, you've served a great mission and you have some amazing stories to tell. I want you to go home and tell those stories for 6 months, and then I want you to have new stories to tell". The mission president meant that YES these mission stories are valuable, precious, sacred, and meant to be shared...but the elder had the potential to continue to grow, continue to impact others, and continue to get new stories to share. Upon hearing that, it became my immediate goal. Get new stories to share.
I'm happy to say that I've been home now from my mission for almost a year and I have been SO blessed to have wonderful, humbling, incomprehensible new stories to share! I know that Heavenly Father does have a plan for each of us, His children here on earth. Central to His plan is His son Jesus Christ who enables each of us to have a joyful life and overcome trials and setbacks and to GROW. They desire for us to have the same joy and exaltation that they have, and because of that, they expect us to progress. Thankfully they didn't leave us on this earth to do it alone; striving to perfection is quite impossible without them. So Jesus Christ lovingly gave us His gospel, the most simple yet perfectly instituted steps to help us progress. They understood that even simple truths would get confused in our imperfect world, so they restored clear truths taught by chosen messengers, called prophets, to help us navigate through the maze this world is. The truth is found in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, but first it is found in a prayer that I invite you to say to Heavenly Father to find out for yourself if this is true.
Because of these amazing things that I have found to be true for myself, I do surely have new stories to share. I hope by sharing them, I will be able to be an instrument in the hands of Heavenly Father, that I may help anyone seeking for happiness, peace and truth, and that I may never forget my daily walk with God.
